Nurses protest illegal sack of colleagues at OOUTH~NEWSEXTRA

A group of Nurses and concerned youths were at iwe-iroyin on Thursday to stage a peaceful protest over the sack of two nurses at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.

It was gathered that Aisha Ajibola and Tega Prince were sacked by the management this year. Tega was allegedly sacked for participating in September 15 strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress, while Ajibola who had spent 15 years in service was allegedly sacked and sent packing by officers of the State Security Service for speaking up for Tega's sack two months after.

According to the peaceful protesters, the Nurses were diligent at work and the effect of pandemic requires that they are reinstated.

Speaking to journalists, Miss Olamide who is also a Nurse said they all gathered because of their sacked colleagues. She requested for Governor Dapo Abiodun's immediate intervention stressing that the Nurses have people who depend on them.

She further challenged the power of the Chief Medical Director and the Administrator for sacking her colleagues. Olamide said that the board only has the power to sack them. However, she's convinced that they have done nothing wrong to get a sack letter.

She also mentioned on how they have become so inferior to their contemporaries abroad, stating that they are over laboured and under paid.

Also, she lamented the issue of being stagnant without any form of promotion for years, alleging that only the Deputy Director of Nursing Services got promoted thrice in two years because of her romantic affair with the Chief Medical Director.

When contacted, the Chief Medical Director of the institution, Dr. Peter Adefuye, confirmed the sack but denied that he single handedly sacked them.
