Opay Riders shun Work In Abeokuta

A lot of riders who registered with OPay Digital Services Limited under its ORide service in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, have stopped working with the service after it ended its promo on Tuesday.

Opay started operating in Abeokuta in August this year, with promotional offer of N50 per drop meant to last all through August.

However, the promo lasted till Monday, September 2nd, with normal billing starting on Tuesday September 3rd.

Immediately the promo ended, many of the riders according to findings by Newsworldprime, decided to stop working with the Opay service, even though they are still registered riders with the service.

Riders who spoke with Newsworldprime on condition of anonymity said they stopped working with the service because they were finding it difficult to see passengers and the ones that they pick usually fight them after discovering that their bills are too expensive.

They also appealed to the operators of OPay to reconsider their billing method and find a lasting solution to the challenge.

Commuters who spoke with Newsworldprime were furious, saying the billing system of OPay is too expensive than expected.

One of such commuters, Abiodun Ajani said, “I patronize OPay for many reasons, not necessarily because it’s cheap, but because it’s safe and convenient. But even at that they need to still make their price attractive if not cheap. For instance where I will take a normal bike for N200, at most N250, they billed me N400, that’s about N200, 150 difference, plus my data. Haba, that is absolutely too expensive. A billing of at most N300 if not 250 would’ve been okay for such distance”.

The situation remained the same on Tuesday and Wednesday, while unconfirmed report had it that the billing system have been reviewed to 80% discount.

If the unconfirmed report is true, the situation of things might change on Thursday(today).
