Fire All Service Chiefs, Arewa Youth Begs Buhari

A powerful group in the Northern region of the country known as the  Arewa Consultative Youth Forum, AYCF, has told the Presidnet Muhammadu Buhari led-Federal government that in order to solve all insecurity crises across the land and the Northern part of the country in particular the military Service Chiefs needs to be dismissed.

While speaking with the press, the group’s  President General, Yerima Shettima told the Federal Government to “fire” all the military Service Chiefs, because of the blood shed and large scale insecurity in different geo-political zones in the North and other region of Nigeria.

But  the group’s  President General that the high rate of insecurity and bloodshed can be solved when the Federal government appoints new military officers that can deploy fresh ideas and strategy as military Service Chiefs.

Shettima disclosed that the present crop of Service Chiefs have failed in their responsibility to defend the territorial integrity of the country and have nothing to offer and needs to be shown the exit door immediately

The statement reads below.

“Let me tell you, nothing is impossible but the question is does the government has the political will to resolve the issue? If they have the political will what does it takes to fire the Service Chiefs for this show of shame.

“Government should fire them and then come up with fresh ideas and officers who can do better but when you continue to carry the burden of those who have nothing to offer then you don’t expect to get anything other than what was obtained in the past.

“This government should have the political will to do that, these security Chiefs are not just good enough in the interest of the collective interest of Nigerians.”

It will be recalled that President Buhari when questioned on Arise TV in January,2019 on why he is yet to change the Service Chiefs despite their obvious dismay performance he disclosed that “While fighting insecurity, if you remove service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, if you don’t wait for an appropriate time to do it, then you create competition within the service.

“There are many ambitious people waiting within the service but only one man can be chief of army staff, only one man can be chief of air staff, only one man can be IG. Don’t forget that it was this administration that appointed them. “I didn’t know them personally. I followed records and I think I picked the best. Of course, their performance may be disappointing but I accept responsibility for not changing them.”
